For this post, I've partnered with Whole Foods. Celebrate the Big Game without cheating on your healthy eating goals with a cauliflower-based Chipotle Honey Cauliflower Hummus that you can make in minutes. Grab all the paleo-approved basics at Whole Foods, and serve up the type of party eats that're guaranteed to keep cavehumans mighty happy.
The Best Place for Paleo
I've spent so many hours pulling boxes down from shelves, scanning the ingredients list with eagle eyes, only to discover--darn! brown rice syrup! or shoot! corn!
Know what I'm talking about? Of course you do. Because you, my paleo loving friend, know this is the life of a caveeater. Too often, even "healthy" eats include oats or sugars or some other off-the-list ingredient. So you narrow the list of go-to eats. But spend far too many nights craving crackers and snackers.
This was me. Until a few months back, my paleo-ninja pal mentioned Simple Mills crackers, available from Whole Foods. Consciously made, pure ingredients, 100% paleo approved.
"Plus, I can't stop eating them! They are SO GOOD."
I hit Whole Foods that night, and was delighted to find there wasn't just one box of paleo perfect crackers. Aisle after aisle, there was a massive selection of cavegirl approved eats. If you prefer to eat paleo, you'll know what a joy it is to discover a whole section full of stuff you can actually eat. Rather than running around the whole city, chasing down the one or two items here-or-there that I can find. I now just hit Whole Foods, ready to head home with an armful of reuseable bags filled to the gills with good eats.
Check Out These Paleo Favorites
If you haven't yet discovered them, here are a few of the paleo brands I COMPLETELY recommend you check out.
- Cocoburg. Oh, hi COCONUT JERKY. The savory, tangy, chewy stuff of your snacking dreams.
- Bonafide Provisions. Praise be! No more boiling bone broth. And their Drinkable Veggies are 2000% craveable. It's like a Bloody Mary. But Grok approved, and so nice for breakfast.
- Epic Provisions. Don't even get me started abou their Bison Bars. And the cracklin's. And the duck fat. And the bone broth. Gah. Everything they make is constantly in my kitchen.
- The New Primal. Paleo jerky, with flavors for foodies like us. You haven't lived until you've tried their Ginger & Honey Turkey Jerky.
- Picaflor. Fermented hot sauce. Because you deserve this in your life. And in your gut.
- Primal Kitchen. Paleo mayo. Paleo vinaigrette. It's like being a real person. But eating like a cave person. I love Primal Kitchen so much.
- Simple Mills. My absolute go-to snack company. Crackers and cookies. Paleo baking mixes. And all of it better than the original. I kid you not. This company is one of those go-to crazy insane brilliant brands that has figured out how to make paleo taste darn good.
Super Food Snack Time
So, we're on Week 2 of the paleo-but-plantbased, low-carb, low-calorie DIY version of the 'fasting mimicking diet' and while my body is already quite content (it's so nice to detox from sugars and booze), my brain is craving allthesnacks.
I want crackers and guac and hummus. So hit Whole Foods (of course) to grab plantbased basics and Simple Mills crackers. Found everything I needed to make a cauliflower based hummus, picked up some pre-made hot guac (because Whole Foods makes guac better than I do), and headed home to toss together a quick snack plate.
Added bonus: if you're gearing up for the Big Game (trademark issues keep us from saying "Shoe Purr Bo Hole") THIS SPREAD IS FOR YOU. It's got nothing but good ingredients.
And if you've got Whole 30 folks, or vegan friends, or Gluten-Free eaters headed over, be sure to check out the Whole Foods Special Diets page for cooking hacks, meal plans and more.
No-Bean Chipotle Hummus
Are you ever delighted by how many things a girl can make with cauliflower? It's like, the best veggie out there.
Mashed potatoes that taste like mashed potatoes...BUT THEY'RE CAULIFLOWER.
Pizza Crusts that taste like perfect crispy pizza crusts...BUT THEY'RE CAULIFLOWER.
Kung Pao Chicken that tastes like Kung Pao chicken...BUT IT'S CAULIFLOWER.
Hummus that tastes like hummus...BUT IT'S CAULIFLOWER.
So that's basically me. Beating my chest in epic triumph. Caveman heart squealing and twerking to the rhythm of mellow jazz. All because of cauliflower.
For this recipe, I kept it so simple. Frozen cauliflower, garlic, chipotles in adobo, tahini, olive oil, a smidge of raw honey, and puree. It's seriously that simple.
And seriously SO GOOD.
Like, YOU WILL NOT MISS REGULAR HUMMUS.
I know this, because it's all I ate all day, and I don't miss regular hummus.

FOOD PHOTOGRAPHY GEEK-OUT MOMENT
These images were shot with a Canon 5D Mk III paired with a SigmaArt 35mm f/1.4 lens. I love that lens. A lifestyle photog friend mentioned it was her go-to lens for family and portrait shoots, so I figured I'd give it a try. It's gorgeous. As with all the SigmaArt lenses, it's just a dream to have in your arsenal.
